JAY – While some have their gowns picked out, others were heading to Farmington after school Monday to get one for the all-male Miss Jay High School Pageant.

“It’s all about guts and glory,” contestant Justin McCormick, a junior, said.

Instead of girls competing in the evening gown, talent and question-response portions, boys will do it dressed as girls.

They may be a tad nervous to stroll out on stage in front of a crowd in an evening gown with accessories while performing, but all seemed excited to try to claim the title.

The show begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the high school cafeteria.

“I’m ready to rock,” said contestant Shane Lefebvre, a senior.

Proceeds benefit Project Graduation for this year’s seniors.

“It’s for a good cause,” freshman Kyle Storer said as he and the other boys discussed the competition.

“You’ve got to be all about it,” Justin Shink, a junior, added.

Most of the contestants are not seniors but underclassmen willing to help out their upperclassmen.

“A lot of people are going to show up and a couple of us seniors think it’s a good way to get money for our trip,” Nick Bourassa said.

Shink plans to wear his cousin’s black prom dress. He tried it on Sunday and it fits, he said.

He also plans to sing a song he hasn’t practiced yet.

McCormick plans to be spontaneous in his talent.

Lefebvre intends to show off his eating talents, and Austin Clark, a sophomore, is going to demonstrate his skills making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Dylan Stefani, a junior, is going to juggle.

Storer is going to ride a unicycle.

“I don’t know how I’m going to ride a unicycle in a gown,” Storer said, which prompted ideas from the others such as changing outfits between the evening gown competition and the talent competition.
