Future leaders take home awards

JAY – Twelve students belonging to the Jay Chapter, Future Business Leaders of America, joined 200 students attending the spring leadership conference on March 17 and 18 in South Portland.

All students were required to participate in competition testing on Monday, with the following students winning their respective competitions: Brenda Allen, first in “Who’s Who in FBLA, based on leadership, dependability and service to FBLA, second in job interview skills, second in business math skills and second in scrapbook.

Chelsea Freeman, first, Introduction to Business; Erika Spencer, second, Introduction to Business; Gina Nemi, second, Introduction to Technology; and Brandon Shink, third, Public Speaking 1.

On Tuesday morning students selected two workshop sessions to attend on topics such as “So You Want to be an Entrepreneur,” “Be Prepared! How to Interview Like a Pro,” “Credit Card Safety,” “What Your Penmanship Reveals About You,” Fundraising Ideas,” “Going Global” and “Crossing the Bridge to PBL.”

The students are involved with community service activities, including the Apple Pumpkin Festival, leaf-raking for the elderly, Christmas and Valentine crafts at Sandy River Nursing Home, Operation Santa Claus, Jay High School blood drive and Special Olympics.
