FRYEBURG – Two Mexican nationals were arrested Saturday on charges of stealing from the office of a potato farm.

Jose F. Campos, 41, of 77 West Fryeburg Road in Fryeburg, was charged with six counts each of burglary and theft. Jesus Avina Hernandez, 43, of 197 Oxford St. in Portland, was charged with one count of burglary and one count of theft.

According to Fryeburg police Chief Wayne Brooking, Campos was a migrant worker at Green Thumb Farms, where the thefts occurred, and Hernandez was an acquaintance. Campos is accused of taking a total of $290 and a digital camera from an office safe over the course of about a week. Hernandez is accused of assisting in a theft on Saturday, in which $20 out of $150 in the safe was taken.

Brooking said the men were using a key to enter the locked office, but were not authorized to have one. Police Cpl. Richard Murray said approximately three of the burglaries were recorded by surveillance equipment.

Murray said both men are in the country legally. Campos and Hernandez remained at the Oxford County Jail on Monday afternoon.
