AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine motorists who want to help support for breast cancer programs will be able to buy specialty license plates later this year.
Gov. John Baldacci held a ceremonial bill signing Monday to mark legislative authorization of the Pink Plates. During the ceremony, Baldacci congratulated Rep. Meredith Strang Burgess of Cumberland, sponsor of the bill and a breast cancer survivor.
Another license plate, also unveiled Monday, is available for an annual fee of $20 with funds designated for fish hatchery maintenance, boat launch facilities and other programs that benefit Maine’s long outdoors tradition.
Strang Burgess says proceeds from the Pink Plates will support the work of the Maine Cancer Foundation, the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition and the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program.
The Pink Plate becomes available Oct. 1.
