RANGELEY – The public is invited to meet with selectmen Wednesday to discuss the placement of a public restroom in Oquossoc, Town Manager Perry Ellsworth said Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Oquossoc Fire Station.

The town is preparing to build the restroom in Oquossoc similar to one in Rangeley, he said. While the town owns the space where the Fire Department is located, it’s not large enough for the restroom. A couple of ideas are being explored and a short presentation will be given at the meeting, he said.

Options include either closing Franklin Street or Rangeley Avenue from Route 17 to Franklin Street, he said. Other options may be available and the meeting will give the board a chance to gather input, he added.

The Rangeley Avenue option provides a loop around the fire station with the town park on the back side, he said.

A scenic byway grant from the Maine Department of Transportation will help pay for the restroom, he said. The major portion of the cost will come from a $156,000 grant, he said.

The grant requires that the restroom be located either on Route 4 or 17 and the town will need to sign a 20-year agreement to maintain it, he added.

The restroom, with the same floor plan as the one in Rangeley, will also use other options such as sidings to help it blend into the space, he said.
