WATERVILLE – Pauline Beaudoin, 80, died April 7 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit.
She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 29, 1927, the daughter of Alcide and Marie Alice (Bilodeau) Beaudoin.
She attended Holy Family School in Lewiston, graduated from St. Dominic’s High School in Lewiston, obtained a B.A. from Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass., and an M.A. from Boston College. She entered the Dominican Order in 1947, and taught in Sabattus, Boston and Cambridge, Mass., and Staten Island, N.Y. She also taught at St. Dominic’s High School and eventually became principal of St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s School in Lewiston.
After leaving the Dominican Order in 1967, she worked as a counselor in the Job Corps in Poland Spring, and later taught at the Lisbon middle school for 20 years. During that time, she was also very active as lector and eucharistic minister in her parish, St. Anne’s Church, in Lisbon. In 1987, she became one of the first associates of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Lyon.
Retiring as a teacher in 1989, she became involved tutoring adults in reading, English as a second language, and basic math. Two evenings a week, she tested adults who wished to obtain their GED. Her greatest joy was seeing people succeed, especially when they seemed to be so unsure of themselves. She was also a volunteer eucharistic minister at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, and a volunteer for the Diocesan SEARCH Program, visiting the elderly who lived alone.
Survivors include one sister, Sister Marie Therese Beaudoin, CSJ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Jean Paul; and three sisters, Marie Therese Lugner, Jacqueline Michaud and Yvette Grondin.
