PARIS – Farmers in Oxford County will receive free marketing support in a community campaign to promote the purchase of fresh food from local farms.

A network of local food enthusiasts from the region will update and publish a directory of farms and markets where locally grown and raised foods can be purchased.

The booklet will highlight sources for fresh healthy breads, cheeses, eggs, fruits and berries, meats, milk, vegetables, seedlings and fiber products. Farm tours, pick-your-own, community-supported-agriculture and value-added products can also be included.

The project is part of Western Mountains Alliance’s Eat Smart Eat Local initiative to build a vital local farming economy in western Maine.

Printed copies of the booklet will be distributed to the public at no cost and farm profiles will be posted on WMA’s Web site. Farmers who would like to be listed in the booklet may call 778-3885 or complete the survey found at www.westernmountainsalliance.org. The deadline is Sunday, April 20.
