BANGOR – Backed by excellent pitching from Payton Austin, Ryan Cotnoir and Cory Estes, Thomas College swept the University of Maine at Farmington, 10-2 and 6-0 in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Husson College’s Winkin Sports Complex Wednesday.

In game one, the Terriers (7-5) broke the game open in the fifth inning when they parlayed six hits, three walks and an error into seven runs.

Farmington’s Andrew Dean slugged a two-run double for his first collegiate hit, while Corey Provencher registered a pair of singles.

Brian Morrison, Pat Howell and Matt Levine worked the mound for the Beavers (2-8), combining for eight walks and seven strikeouts. Michael Chamard led Thomas with four singles, including a two-run single to highlight the fifth inning.

In game two, Estes hurled a complete-game, three-hit shutout. The Terriers struck for two runs in the first on an RBI single by Sam Shain and a sacrifice fly by Nicholas Schauwecker. Schauwecker added an RBI base hit in third.

Bill Ridge pitched well for the Beavers, scattering seven hits over six innings with five strikeouts. Tyler Hanson smacked a pair of singles, while Provencher had the Beavers’ other hit.

USM 11, Husson 10

SOUTH PORTLAND – Ryan Pike’s single off the center-field fence knocked in the winning run to give Southern Maine an 11-10 victory over Husson.

Pike’s game-winner followed a two-out double by Ryan Gaffney. The Huskies have now won nine of their last 11 games to improve to 13-6.

Husson tied the game with four runs in the top of the ninth, the last two on Ethan Guerette’s two-out single.

St. Joe’s 6, Colby 3

STANDISH – Steve Stout pitched five innings of relief to earn his first win of the season, and Wade Oliver knocked in a pair of runs to lead St. Joseph’s to a 6-3 triumph over Colby.

The Monks took charge in the second inning by scoring four runs.
