MECHANIC FALLS – Phyllis E. Stone, 76, of Mechanic Falls passed away on April 10, at home with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Canton, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1931, the daughter of Everett and Emma Thompson. She married Franklin Stone Sr. on July 19, 1947. They resided in New York, Maine, and Florida, then moved back to Maine, and bought their home in Mechanic Falls in 1958.
She was involved in many activities that involved her children and grandchildren. She was a volunteer at school, mother advisor and advisory board member for Dwinal Assembly Rainbow for Girls, and an active member of the Dwinal Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She started volunteering at Elm Street school when her daughter, Dee, was in fourth grade. She was later hired as an educational technician and worked there for many years. She loved working with children and had high expectations for those that she worked with. They seemed drawn to her no nonsense manner and loved her back.
She is survived by her children, Charles Stone of Belgrade, Betty Faulkingham and husband, Lewis, of Bryant Pond, Rusty Paine and husband, Stephen, of Oxford, Penny Roberts and companion, Peter Muliolis, of Oxford, Franklin Stone Jr. of Mechanic Falls and Dee Robinson and husband, Kenneth, of Mechanic Falls; a granddaughter, Lee Chretien of Hebron, who lived with her for several years; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Elizabeth Snell of Florida.
She was predeceased by her parents; a brother and sister; her husband, Franklin Stone Sr.; and her son, Kenneth Stone.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Kumaki, the staff at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, the staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital, and the caregivers of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the exceptional love and care given to our mother.
