BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College notched a doubleheader sweep over Trinity College, 4-3 and 5-2, in NESCAC softball action Saturday afternoon.

Following a two-run rally in the top of the sixth inning of Game 1 by the Bantams (13-8) to tie the game at 3-3, Shavonne Lord walked to start the bottom of the frame for the Polar Bears (17-7). Consecutive errors by the Bantam infield brought Lord around to score the eventual game-winning run.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning of Game 2, Alison Coleman launched a game-tying two-run homer for the Polar Bears. Later in the inning, Lord took a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2, before connecting for a sacrifice fly in the sixth to increase the margin to 5-2.

Tufts 7, Colby 1

WATERVILLE – Tufts University scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a close game for a 7-1 victory, their third win over Colby in two days, in NESCAC softball action Saturday afternoon.

Sam Kuhles had a two-run single and scored in the top of the seventh for the Jumbos (18-5). The Mules (6-10) got its lone run in the bottom of the seventh when Amanda Roehn doubled and scored on a single by Alyssa Lepore.

Baseball

Trinity rolls

WATERVILLE – Trinity College notched a pair of games, 14-0 and 11-2, over Colby College in NESCAC baseball action Saturday.

Chris Murdock singled and scored for the Mules (9-8) in the second game, while Ken Kaufman had a two-run single. Richard Newton, RT Tourek and Kyle McKay also had hits in the second game.

James Wood homered in both games for the Bantams (23-0).

Tufts drops Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK – Tufts University scored 13 unearned runs in a doubleheader sweep of Bowdoin College, 13-12 and 9-2, in NESCAC baseball action Saturday.

A thrilling opening game saw the Polar Bears (11-10) rally from 7-0 and 10-5 deficits to force extra innings. Brendan Garner drew Bowdoin to within 13-12 on an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, but Bowdoin couldn’t find the equalizer.

Tufts continued to take advantage of Bowdoin’s weak defense in the second game, scoring five unearned runs in the first inning.

Bowdoin’s offense was led by Pat Duchette, who collected four hits and three RBIs on the day.
