AUBURN – Bernice M. Parker, 97, formerly of Whitney Street and Park Avenue in Auburn, died early Friday morning, April 11, at Clover Manor.
She was born in Durham on Dec. 11, 1910, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Johnson) Caton. She was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.
She was married to Walter E. Parker, who passed away in 1984.
Bernice spent her working years in office work, first for an Auburn lawyer, Seth May, and then many years at Coca-Cola Bottling until her retirement as office manager.
In her retirement years, she spent time in the Auburn school system as a teacher’s aide.
She was a member of the Busy Bees, the Extension Group and was a life member of the Durham Historical Society. In her free time she enjoyed quilting.
She leaves three nieces, Beverly Koenig of Durham, Glenys Hutchins of Falmouth, and Arlene Rand of Old Orchard; a nephew, Donald Caton of Florida; a stepdaughter Lois Sawyer and husband, Rodney, of Berlin, N.H.; a stepson, Walter Parker of Florida; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Marcroft and Julia Rand; and a brother, Maurice Caton.
