BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) – The town of Barnstable has gone to court in a dispute over transmission lines for a proposed energy-producing wind farm in Nantucket Sound.
Barnstable officials filed a complaint in Superior Court earlier this week claiming the Cape Cod Commission has exclusive jurisdiction over the transmission cables that would link 130 turbines to the shore.
Barnstable officials claim in the suit that the state Energy Facilities Siting Board does not have the authority to review the commission’s denial of the transmission lines.
The lawsuit is one of several legal challenges to Cape Wind, which has been trying for seven years to get clearance to build the nation’s first offshore wind farm.
