RUMFORD – Alma Y. “Marion” Horne, 93, died Saturday, April 12, at the Rumford Community Home. She was a resident of Upton Road in Andover.

She was born in Lowell, Mass., on Oct. 21, 1914. She was a daughter of Joseph and Auda (Larue) Martin. She attended schools in Lowell until the ninth grade. She left school and was the sole support of her family during the depression. She took a course to be a practical nurse. She worked as a nurses aid at Medfield State Hospital before marriage. She also was employed by L.A. Donovan Co. in Woburn, for many years. She also worked at United Carr Fastener in Wilmington, Mass., until her retirement.

She moved to Andover in 1996 with her daughter and son-in-law. Her family always came first. She was a devoted wife, mother and cherished grandmother, having helped in raising and caring for her grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was a great cook, loved to sew, play the piano and enjoyed going out with her many dear friends.

She was married in Tewksbury, Mass., on June 3, 1939, to the late Chester A. Horne, who died in 1975.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Melzar and her husband, Jere L. Melzar, of Andover; two grandchildren, Mark P. Melzar and his wife, Shari (Ellis) Melzar, of Norfolk, Va., and Cheryl Melzar of Hudson, N.H.; four great-grandchildren, Curtis J. Girginoff of Hudson, N.H., Derek Melzar of Burlington, Mass., Alec Seth Melzar and Camryn Melzar of Norfolk, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul Martin and Joseph Martin; and sisters, Berthe (Betty) Drapeau, Gabrielle Simoneau and Jeannette Martin.
