FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington sophomore geology major Anthony Greenlaw of Thorndike has been awarded the inaugural Joan McDade Geology Field Study Fund scholarship.

The award will help support his participation in Geology of Newfoundland, a UMF May term course taught by Tom Eastler, professor of geology, and Doug Reusch, assistant professor of geology, where students have the opportunity to gain field assistant experience at diverse locations while conducting geological mapping, studying natural geologic terrain and culture, and gaining an appreciation for the natural world.

The fund was established in 2007 by McDade, a UMF alumna of the class of 1978, whose passions for adventure and field study were cut short by lung cancer on March 19, 2008.
