LEWISTON – Alfred J. Teixeira, 71, of Fairview Drive in Lisbon, died after a courageous battle with cancer, early Wednesday, April 16, at Central Maine Medical Center, with family at his side.

He was born in New Bedford, Mass., July 26, 1936, son of Manuel and Violet (Levasseur) Teixeira and was educated in Massachusetts schools. On April 7, 1956, he married the former Carmen Cote. He worked many years in the shoe manufacturing industry, spending a number of those years at Auerbach Shoe, Etonic Shoe and Auburn Shoe, until his retirement in 2001.

Among his favorite enjoyments in his free time were being around his children and grandchildren, camping, fishing, gardening and NASCAR.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Carmen Teixeira of Lisbon; his children, Sandy Benoit and her husband, Richard, of Bowdoin, Ray Teixeira and his wife, Kim, of Lewiston and Cindy Caron and her husband, Phil, of Bowdoin; five grandchildren, Jason and Jesse Levasseur, Spencer and Taylor Teixeira and Chelsea Caron; and his brothers and sisters, Andy Teixeira and his wife, Joan (Chick), of Lewiston, Lolly Allen and husband, Jim, of Winthrop, Ronald Teixeira and Danny Teixeira of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his parents.
