Dear Sun Spots: I am remiss in thanking you for posting my request for yarn some time ago. A marvelous lady had exactly what I was looking for, giving it to me without taking payment. I am very grateful and the afghan is nearly completed now.
I have a new request. Some time back there was a short news item in the Sun from a person who advertised help to senior citizens in learning the Internet and the way around a Mac computer. I wonder if Sun Spots recalls this or if anyone else might? If I remember correctly it was someone in the L/A area. I would like to get in touch with this person as I need help. The Internet provider we have doesn’t seem to be able to correct whatever it is that is going on, as we keep getting disconnected, sometimes even before it finishes going through the steps of authorization or else when I am in the middle of waiting for the information. It is very frustrating. Thank you for such a great service to the community. I will be watching your column for a response. Thanks. – Constance, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots believes what you are referring to is the free, drop-in, basic computer class for seniors at the Lewiston Public Library that was held last summer. Coordinator Cathy Snook intends to start up the program again on July 2 for six weeks, as long as she has the volunteers. She says to watch the Sun Journal’s calendar of events for more information. As soon as they are ready to start the program again, it will be included in the Check It Out calendar. You may also check with the Lewiston Public Library for more information as the date nears, 784-0135 or on the “upcoming events” section of its Web site www.lplonline.org.
Dear Sun Spots: The Lewiston High School Class of 1988 20th reunion will be Nov. 29. For more information or to provide an updated address, call Rachel Champagne Ross, 998-7119 or Lisa Lagasse Kurtz, 784-2449 or e-mail [email protected] – Tracey, Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for several titles of either paperback or hardcover books by Grace Livingston Hill. Please call 684-4119 if you have some available for purchase. Thank you. – E. Marden, Strong.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots spoke with Jim Logan, owner of Twice Sold Tales at 155 Main St. in Farmington. They have some titles by Hill available from time to time, but none at the moment. They usually sell the hardcover copies for around $3, and would be happy to help you order some if they are available. Please note it will cost more for the new copy. You may contact the store at 778-4411. Kenny Brechner at DDG Booksellers of 193 Broadway in Farmington would also be able to order any titles you are looking for. Special orders normally take one to three days and there is no extra charge beyond the price of the book. You may reach them at 778-3454. Artios Books, 180 Turner St. in Auburn has recently added 10,000 new titles to its collection and has some of Hill’s titles in stock. You may reach them at 786-4007 to see if they have what you’re looking for.
