BETHEL – A 47-year-old man was arrested Monday on charges of molesting two young girls.

Timothy P. Belmont, of 23 Mason St., is charged with five counts each of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact with the girls, who are 8 and 10 years old.

According to an affidavit by officer John Taylor of the Bethel Police Department, a woman reported Belmont to police. In subsequent interviews, police say the girls told them Belmont had touched them inappropriately in the past.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Taylor, the activity had been going on between February and April.

Belmont made his initial appearance in South Paris District Court on Wednesday before Judge Paul Cote. Belmont’s bail was set at $25,000 cash with the condition of no contact with the girls.

Belmont remained at the Oxford County Jail on Wednesday evening.
