SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) – A daylong gathering in South Portland examines opportunities that are opening up for Maine from the so-called “greening” of the forest products sector.

The inaugural Maine Green Forest Summit brings together representatives of the construction, alternative energy and forest products industries.

Promoters of the conference say Maine’s high percentage of certified forest land positions the state to be a leader in meeting the growing global demand for green, or certified, forest products.

The keynote speaker will be Gov. John Baldacci’s senior economic policy advisor, Jack Cashman.
