LEWISTON – Louis P. Auger, 82, of Coburn Street in Lewiston died early Thursday, April 17, at Central Maine Medical Center with family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston, June 29, 1925, the son of Leon and Diane (Gagne) Auger and grew up in East Poland before moving to Lewiston in the 1930s. He worked as a welder at the South Portland Shipyard during World War II. On June 29, 1963, he married A. Jeanette Roy in Auburn. He worked for 40 years as a weaver at Bates Manufacturing of Lewiston, until his retirement in 1987.

Among his favorite enjoyments were being around family and friends, gardening, photography, making crafts, telling stories, playing cribbage and watching the Red Sox. He was a proud member of the Allagash Travelers who loved nature and being outdoors.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, A. Jeanette Auger of Lewiston; his children, Susan Rice and her husband, David, of Millbury, Mass., Jeanine Labrecque and her husband, Brian, of Lewiston and Michael Auger and his wife, Christina Epperson, of Lewiston; four grandchildren, David Rice, Neil Rice, Megan Labrecque and Haley Labrecque; and four great-grandchildren, Emily Rice, MacKenzie Rice, Ainslee Rice and Brennan Rice.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Donald Auger; his brothers, Gerald, Leon, Alfred and Oscar; as well as a sister, Florence.
