JAMAICA, Vt. (AP) – Vermont State Police say the body of a kayaker who disappeared when his vessel capsized has been found.
Twenty-four-year-old David Holcomb, of Wardsboro, was kayaking with a friend Thursday afternoon when both kayaks tipped over. The other man, Matt St. Peter, was able to make his way to shore. Neither was wearing a life jacket.
Holcomb’s kayak was found down river.
Swift water searchers, watercraft, ground searchers, and K-9 teams combed an area of the West River between Jamaica State Park and the Townshend Dam on Friday. But Holcomb’s body was found about 12 noon by people walking in an area off Old Route 30, just south of the village of West Townshend.
An autopsy is planned.
