RUMFORD – Joseph Rene Raymond, 81, died Friday, April 18, at his residence on Grove Avenue in Rumford.

He was born in Chisholm, on Dec. 4, 1926, a son of the late Alphonse and Eulie (Pelletier) Raymond. He attended schools in Chisholm. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1946, including the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He worked as a truck driver for International Paper Co. and later for Benedix Oil Co. and other jobs.

He was a member of Swasey-Torey Post 100, American Legion in Dixfield, member of the Rumford United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and his woodworking, and he especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was married in Rumford, Nov. 26, 1965, to Geneva Wing who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Toni Chivilo of Princeton, Mass., Mrs. Ann Desjardins and her husband, Peter, of Lafayette, Ind., and Mrs. Randy Orr and her husband, Randall, of Roxbury; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Doreen Jones of Lewiston and Mrs. Darlene Beaudet and her husband, Gary, of Canton; one stepson, Gerald Broomhall of Locke Mills; two brothers, Bertrand Raymond of Leominster, Mass., and Bernard Raymond of Jay; five sisters, Rosalie Gaudet and her husband, Leo, of Auburn, Madeline Poulin of Jay, Elizabeth Raymond of Dixfield and Alma Raymond of Chisholm and Mrs. Louise Scott of Peru; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
