WATERFORD – Maintaining boundary lines is the topic of the April 26 meeting of the western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine.

State forester Merle Ring likes to remind landowners of Ben Franklin’s advice that “Good fences make good neighbors.” He also points out that making sure your boundaries are defined is the first step before any harvest begins.

“Well marked and maintained woodlot boundary lines benefit landowners in many ways, including helping to prevent trespass across their lines from abutting logging operations,” Ring said.

This is the chapter’s first outdoor meeting of the season and will focus on finding old lines and corners. The discussion will also include landowner boundary rights.

Coffee and doughnuts will be available at 8:30 a.m. at Bill Haynes’ sawmill on the Sweden Road in Waterford off Route 35/37. Chapter meetings are free and open to all. For more information, contact Merle Ring at 674-3787 or Bill Haynes at 583-2963.
