South Paris – Kenneth K. Knightly, 84, of Norway, passed away on April 19, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris. Born in Norway on April 17, 1924, he was the son of William H. and Florence (Harriman) Knightly.

He graduated from Norway High School in 1943. He later went on to graduate from the Maine-New Hampshire School for Savings Banking, The Financial Examiners School in Washington, D.C., The National Association of Mutual Savings Banks and Graduate School of Savings Banking at Brown University. He was a Certified Financial Examiner (C.F.E.) in 1975 by the Society of Financial Examiners.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943, and trained as a radar operator and was deployed to the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

He received several citations including the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with bronze star. After World War II, he returned to the family oil business where he worked as their bookkeeper for several years. He later worked with the Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions as a bank auditor and retired from that position in 1995.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Floyd Harlow Post 9787, in South Paris, where he was one of the first officers of the post along with his brothers Maurice, Walter and John. Additionally, he was a life member of the American Legion, Stone-Smart Post 82, a member of the Pennessewassee Lodge of K. of P. and the Society of Financial Examiners.

He married Ruth L. Tucker on Dec. 24, 1946. She passed away on July 22, 1995.

He is survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.

He was also predeceased by three brothers, Maurice Knightly, Walter Knightly and John Knightly.
