FARMINGTON – The Franklin Community Health Network will once again host a Summer Scrub Club Camp on Aug. 4 to 8 at Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Ben Franklin Center.
The camp is designed to introduce youth to a variety of careers available in healthcare and is open to all students who will be entering grades eight, nine or 10.
According to organizers, the camp will be a week filled with education about careers, including non-traditional and unexpected jobs in the Franklin Community Health Network.
A sampling of careers explored will include physical therapy and sports medicine, nursing, hospital administration, accounting, marketing, pharmacy, radiology, computer science, horticulture and emergency medical services.
Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and demonstrations such as casting, suturing, lab analysis and emergency response to a mock accident. All campers will receive certification in Heartsaver first aid.
To receive an application, contact the education office at 779-2381. There is a $50 registration fee, but scholarships are available for those needing financial assistance. Spaces are limited, and all registrations must be received by May 30.
The program is cosponsored and partially funded by Gear Up: Right Choices for Youth, and by the Franklin Memorial Hospital Area Health Education Center, a member of the Maine AHEC Network, which is supported by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
