Conservation district gets grant for envirothon
FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District was recently awarded a $500 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation to help fund the annual Western Regional Envirothon competition, an outdoor environmental program where high school teams compete and are tested on their knowledge of soils, wildlife, forestry and aquatics.
The Franklin County district is a nonprofit group that focuses on the conservation of natural resources through technical assistance and educational programs.
The Envirothon is one example of the district’s educational programs promoting conservation and the wise use of natural resources.
“We are thankful to the Plum Creek Foundation for this generous grant,” said Rosetta Thompson, district manager. “This donation will enable us to spread the word about the importance of conservation through the Envirothon.”
The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves.
The foundation board meets quarterly to review applications submitted from organizations in the company’s operating communities. Visit the community involvement page on Plum Creek’s Web site at www.plumcreek.com to download an application.
