JAY – The Unified Arts Programs (art, band, chorus, health, Spanish and physical education) will hold a Pride Festival in celebration of student accomplishments throughout the school year from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

Artwork that Jay Middle School students have created during the school year will be on display throughout the school and library. There will also be a DVD of student artwork presented in a multi-media format shown during the evening and week.

The instrumental program at Jay Middle School will display student performance skills on their instruments in the band room. Students will perform solos, duets and small ensembles for the audience.

The vocal program will share what the general music class did for a project a few months ago. The students will play the compositions they wrote on percussion instruments. A couple of students will also play guitar. During the combined time, the chorus and students will sing “Hey there Delilah.”

Health students will demonstrate first aid procedures, including basic life support strategies. Healthy snacks will be brought in to share and student-produced projects from grades five to eight will be showcased throughout the East Wing.

In the Spanish room, foreign language students will have some of their work on display. There will be projects about Spanish-speaking countries, student-created storybooks and slide shows depicting “mi familia.”

Visitors may listen to various audio presentations of student conversations and original story narrations. Dishes from various Spanish-speaking countries will be available for tasting. In the gym, a few exemplary student projects will be highlighted, and students will perform songs and short stories in Spanish.

Physical education students will demonstrate a few team games, physical skills, special talents and special areas of interest throughout the evening. There will be jump rope demonstrations, team handball and soccer demonstrations as well as individuals sharing their talents in areas of physical fitness and other non-traditional physical activities and games.
