WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) – A 13-year-old boy who’s proposing a windmill for the new high school in Windham has met with U.S. Sen. John Sununu, who likes the idea.

Sununu, who has a background in science and engineering, decided to meet David Hutchings of Windham after learning about the teen’s proposal for a wind and solar electric system for the school that is slated to open in August 2009.

David’s idea has been gaining steam since he first presented it to the school board in January. At the time, he told the board it would help reduce dependence on foreign oil and slow down global warming.

School Superintendent Frank Bass is now eyeing a $300,000 wind/solar system that could be in place when the new high school opens next year.

Sununu met David and his parents for the first time on Monday, and toured the construction site of the new high school, which is about half built.
