GRAY – A New Gloucester man died Monday night when his pickup truck failed to round a curve.

Christopher Sloat, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was extricated from his truck shortly before midnight.

Police said alcohol and speed “may have been a factor” in the crash.

Sloat was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck north on Whitney Road about 11:45 p.m. when it failed to negotiate the curve, police said in a statement. The truck left the road, rolled over and struck several trees.

Gray rescue and firefighters freed him from the wreckage.

Accident reconstructionists from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office are investigating to determine the cause.
