LEWISTON – Pauline I. Berube, 86, a former resident of Main Street in Jay, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 23, at Central Maine Medical Center, due to complications from heart surgery, with her family by her side.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1921, in Livermore, the daughter of John B. and Emma (Cantin) Ouellette and was a 1938 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. On Jan. 28, 1946, she married Paul J. Berube at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He passed away on May 2, 1991.

She worked at Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls, retiring after 25 years of service. After her husband’s death, she moved to Lewiston to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Ronald Cloutier, where she resided for 11 years.

She was a former communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church for many years and attended Holy Family Church in Lewiston. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

She enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, reading romance novels and playing cards with family. Every year, she looked forward to her vacation week at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, which held very special memories for her. She was known to everyone as “Memere” and her determination, strength and laughter will be remembered forever.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Paula and Bruce Cornelio of Brockton, Mass., and Denise and Ronald Cloutier of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Scott Cloutier and his wife, Mandy, of Lewiston and Melanie Cloutier of Brattleboro, Vt.; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jaylin Cloutier; brothers, Percy Ouellette and his wife, Doris, of Livermore Falls, Aurel Ouellette and his wife, Mickey, of Mansfield, Ohio, Adrien Ouellette and his wife, Barbara, of Nashua, N.H., and Paul Emile Ouellette of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Loula Ouellette of Lewiston, Lorraine Ouellette of Livermore and Blanche Berube of California; Lucien’s first wife, Salley Ouellette of Waltham, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Cyr; and brothers, Roland Ouellette, Lucien Ouellette and Laurier Ouellette.
