DUMAGUETE, Philippines – Michael F. Allen, 50, of Dumaguete, died Jan. 25, in the Philippines, after a long illness.

He was born in Saugus, Mass., June 2, 1957, the son of Philip and Phyllis Allen.

He was educated in Phillips schools, where he received his GED. He also had an associate degree in journalism.

He moved to Florida, in the late 1980s, where he wrote for a small newspaper and worked at the YMCA in Deland. In 2000, he moved to the Philippines.

Besides his daughter, Amanda Allen of Florida, he leaves two sisters, Cindy Tobiassen and her husband, Tom, and Laurie Draper and her husband, Bill, all of Gray; four nieces, Jennifer Jamieson of Saco, Rachael Farley of South Portland, Jodie Ladd of Biddeford and Kristin Draper of Bath; a nephew, Christopher Ladd of Boulder, Colo.; and grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
