JAY – A public hearing on a proposed $16.38 million school and municipal budget for 2008-09 will be held Tuesday.

The school package is $10.28 million, while the municipal portion is $6.1 million. After anticipated revenues are factored in, taxpayers would be asked to raise $7.8 million for schools and $3.4 million for town government.

The public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. April 29 in the Jay Middle School cafeteria.

The school budget shows an increase of $431,629 over the current year’s $9.85 million, but taxpayers will be asked to raise $492,836 less through taxation than the current year.

The municipal budget reflects a $46,606 increase or about 1 percent over the current budget when revenues are factored in.

Two ordinances will also be presented for review during the hearing. There is a proposed amendment to the Changeable Sign Ordinance and a proposed Administration Emergency Management Ordinance.

Voters will take up the school budget in a meeting Tuesday, June 3, with a final vote on it Tuesday, June 10. The municipal budget referendum is also June 10.
