WILTON – Employment opportunities with Barclays banking call center can be explored during a job fair from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Wilton CareerCenter, said Barclays site director Jen McEntee on Monday.

Three other Barclays representatives will join McEntee there for anyone who wants to come by. They want to meet people, explain positions available, answer questions and take applications. Depending on turnout, interviews may be held or a schedule will be set up, she said.

Barclays, a London-based banking company, is looking for full-time employees to answer calls from credit card customers, McEntee said. Customers can present a range of problems from lost or stolen cards to billing questions, and the employee will be trained to help the customers.

The company is prepared to offer five weeks of training. A first class of 11 employees begins Monday, she said. After an initial three weeks of classroom training, the employees will receive an additional two weeks on-the-job or hands-on training.

Two other classes are planned, one in May and another in July, she said. Approximately 35 jobs are available.

“We’re really looking to create a great group of people . . . career-minded people to grow with us,” McEntee said.

The company’s work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will expand into weekend work as the company grows. Once everyone is on board, shifts will be created at the company at 128 Weld Road.

McEntee, a resident of Wilton, worked several years as a branch manager for Farmington’s MBNA.

“People tend to think of a call center and what that means . . . it couldn’t be further from Barclays’ opportunities. I’m really proud of the positions coming to Wilton,” she said.

Along with a competitive wage, full-time jobs have benefits such as medical and dental insurance, a 401K with employer match, tuition reimbursements and paid time off, she said.

Applicants need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, computer skills, customer service skills and a good work ethic. They are asked to bring two copies of their resume with them, said Patty Ladd of the CareerCenter.

Barclays has been interviewing through the Wilton CareerCenter, Ladd said. People can apply online at www.joinbarclays.com. Interviews have been set up from those applications or they can contact the CareerCenter at www.mainecareercenter.com and look under Wilton, she said.
