LOGANVILLE, Ga. – Jean-Paul Caron, 86, formerly of Lewiston, passed away Saturday, April 26, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Loganville, Ga.
He was born in St. Ephrem de Beauce, Quebec, on Oct. 30, 1921, to George and Alice (Goulet) Caron and emigrated with his family to Lewiston at age six months. He attended Lewiston schools. He enjoyed sports, participating in both baseball and ice hockey. He was the last surviving sibling of 16 children.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1945 in the 444th Signal Heavy Construction Battalion as a technical sergeant in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He married Marion Beryl Ashton in 1942, and raised two children. He worked in lumber and construction, building many houses, including his family’s home. He founded his own company, J.P. Caron Construction and was granted a certificate of commendation by the governor of Maine, recognizing his construction of the first solar-powered home in the state.
He and his wife moved from Maine to Pompano Beach, Fla., in 1978, enjoying life there through 2005.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eudora Juneau of Auburn, Mrs. Jeannine Ashton of Lewiston and Mrs. Sharon Caron of Union; his daughter, Patricia (Caron) Levesque of Loganville, Ga., and her husband, Richard; his son, William Caron of Azle, Texas, and his wife, Joyce; his three grandchildren, Richard Levesque, Alice Viggiano and Angela Caron; two great-granddaughters, Amanda and Aubrey Marie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion, to whom he was married 57 years.
He will be remembered as a hard-working, devoted family man. He was very proud of his accomplishments and was good at working with his hands. He loved music, especially swing and big band and using his abilities to bless and help his friends and family.
