Chamber meeting

JAY – The Jay-Livermore-Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce will hold a breakfast meeting Friday, May 2, at LaFleur’s Restaurant. The meeting will begin at 7 a.m. with breakfast and end at 9.

The speaker will be Kurt Adams, chairman of the Maine Public Utilities Commission, on energy cost drivers; what’s happening to combat them, including the ISO New England Energy Grid and the Canadian connection; strategies that businesses can take to reduce energy costs; and the future of Maine energy.

Adams will address alternative energy sources – wind, tidal, biomass and fossil. The public is invited and should RSVP to the chamber office at 897-6755 no later than Wednesday, April 30.

Workshop canceled

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Farm Bureau has announced that the equipment maintenance and repair workshop, scheduled for Saturday, May 3, has been canceled. The workshop was to have been held at the Farmington Town Office.

Genealogists meet

FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter, Maine Genealogy Society, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Farmington Public Library.

The speaker will be MGS President Dale Mower on “Retracing an Ancestor’s Life with Military Pension Files.” Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome.

Breakfast speaker

WILTON – Lisa Laflin of the Healthy Community Coalition will speak on “Homelessness in Franklin County” at the monthly Wilton Early Bird Community Breakfast on Wednesday, May 7, at the Wilton Congregational Church, 386 Main St. Doors will open for coffee at 6:30 a.m., followed by a hot buffet breakfast at 6:45.

The speaker is scheduled for 7 to 7:30 a.m., including an opportunity for discussion. The breakfasts are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

Seniors convene

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls-Jay Senior Citizens met at Murray Hall on April 21 with 29 members present. Fern Theberge, George Doiron, Jim and Jeannine Williams were welcomed back.

Chairwoman Shirley Couture opened the meeting with a prayer, salute to the flag and a moment of silence for departed members and for the men and women in the armed forces.

A thank-you note from Gene Roy was read. Reported on the sick list were Lucille Frechette and Dora Slovak.

Couture was contacted by SeniorsPlus staff, who wanted make a presentation to the local seniors. Members voted to decline their invitation.

The 50-50 was won by Gerry Richards. The cookies were won by Margaret Slovak and the fudge was won by Athanase Couture. The meeting was adjourned and cards and games were played.

Free supper set

WILTON – A free public WECO supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Wilton United Methodist Church.

The menu will consist of baked beans, casseroles, salads, bread, desserts and beverages.

Meals will be served upstairs in the vestry for those unable to go downstairs to the dining room. Donations will be accepted in support of the outreach projects for the four churches in the Wilton area. For more information, call 645-2190.

Pantry closed

WILTON – The Wilton Area Food Pantry will be closed on Friday starting May 2. The food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as usual.
