WEST PARIS – Elizabeth Esther Bragg, 88, of West Paris, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior April 28 in West Paris.
She was born on June 7, 1919, in Sumner Hill, the daughter of Elliot Leslie and Edith (Barrett) Newell and attended grammar school on Sumner Hill and graduated Buckfield High School in 1937. She married Walter Bragg on April 5, 1938; he died Oct. 5, 1997.
She worked numerous jobs, but was proudest of her work as a nurses’ aide and supervisor at Pineland Center, from which she retired in March 1983. During her married years, she lived in Hartford, Winthrop, Hebron, West Paris and New Gloucester, moving back to West Paris after her retirement. In retirement, she and Walter wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla., where she continued to make many friends.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paris Hill for more than 50 years. She served as a deaconess, Sunday school superintendent and teacher spreading her Christian love wherever she went. She was a key person in forming the Christian Women United in Oxford Hills after she moved back to West Paris in 1983.
She had a combination of 75 years as a member of the East Sumner and West Paris Granges. She also belonged to Pomona, State and National Grange. The love of her life was her family including her husband, two daughters, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter due in June.
Survivors include daughters, Donna Kennison and husband, Kenneth Jamie, and Carol Belskis and husband, David; grandchildren, James Kennison and wife, Kerinda, and their children, Cody and Krystal, Jerrold Kennison and wife, Wendy, and their daughters, Trisha and Tiffany, Jennifer Kennison Libby and her husband, James, and their children, Klarissa Austin, William Austin and Elizabeth, Jessica Kennison Allen and her husband, Rick, and their son, Jacob, Dr. Deborah Hadley and her husband, Greg Bowman, and Andrew Hadley.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and brother, Stanley Newell.
