LEWISTON – Joffre J. Heutz, 93, of 28 Morris Ave., passed away on Monday, April 28, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born in Auburn, Dec. 29, 1914, the son of Joseph and Yvonne Michaud Heutz. He was educated in local schools and was married to Helene M. Chasse Nov. 14, 1936. She predeceased him Oct. 8, 2002.

He and his wife owned and operated Heutz Cash Market on Oak Street in Lewiston for 23 years. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and was an avid bowler, gardener and enjoyed fishing with his son, Bert and son-in-law Ted. He bowled both candlepin and 10 pin for more than 50 years until he was 90 years old. He enjoyed all the New England sports teams, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots.

He is survived by three daughters, Theresa Pepin and husband, Theodore, and Marlene Whitten and husband, Brian, all of Lewiston and Debra Cummings of Auburn; two sons, Bertrand Heutz and wife, Shirley, of Wilton and Roger Heutz of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren, Sharee, Sonya, William, Donna, Jeffrey, Jason, Kevin, Marcie, Chelsea, Susan and Edmond and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Marie Heutz; a brother, Bertrand Heutz; and three sisters, Jeannette Soucy, Muguette Denis and Juliette Heutz.

The family would like to extend a special thank you the ICU and oncology staffs and participating doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital who gave our father excellent care.
