LEWISTON – Lyder S. Wilkins, 96, Boston Post Cane holder of Weld, died peacefully at the Hospice House, Sunday, April 27.

She was born May 25, 1911, in Solon, the daughter of Carrol and Dora (Keene) Adams. She graduated from Madison High School and attended the Farmington Normal School for two years.

On Dec. 23, 1933, she married Lynn Sterry. They lived on Sterry Hill in Starks until 1965, when Lynn passed away. She then moved to Starks Village, where she lived alone until 1975. On Dec. 12, 1975, she married Garnet Wilkins and they moved to Embden until 1980, when they relocated to Weld. Garnet passed away in 1990. In 2001, her son, Lynn Jr. “Joe” moved in with her as a caregiver.

For many years, she was employed at the North Anson Reel Co. She was a strong-willed, independent person who always put the needs of others ahead of herself. She was a “giver.” An example of her independent spirit could be noted on her 95th birthday, when she asked for an old fashioned push lawn mower that she used until last summer.

She is survived by her son, Lynn Sterry Jr. “Joe” of Weld; granddaughter, Tracy Houghton of Carthage; grandsons, Douglas Sterry of Howland and Mark Sterry of Wilton; a special sister-in-law, Lois Adams of Farmington; a foster daughter, Gwen Day of Madison; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Donna Richard of Dixfield.

She was predeceased by seven brothers; and four sisters.
