LEWISTON – L’Ecole Francaise du Maine students will present an original play at La Rencontre on Friday, May 2, at the Franco-American Heritage Center.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and will feature pea soup, chicken pie, biscuits, dessert and beverage. The play will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Special guests will be Franois Gauthier, consul general of France; Neil LeBlanc, consul of Canada; Brigitte Bouvier, cultural attache from the French Abroad Boston; and Jean Lachaud, New York representative of the French Abroad.
Willie and Elizabeth LeBihan, proprietors of L’Ecole Francaise du Maine, will present the program.
To commemorate the 400th year of French culture in Maine, the students will debut the new play, which they wrote themselves – entirely in French.
The play features 60 actors, original costumes, music and songs. The plot happens in the office of a detective who, while reading his newspaper, discovers that “French has disappeared from Maine.” After falling asleep on his pages, he wakes up and decides to investigate – to find “French.”
The price is $7 a person and reservations must be made ahead of time by calling Claudette at 786-6936 or the center at 689-2000.
