FARMINGTON – The 4th annual Bike Day at the University of Maine at Farmington will take place Thursday.
The day is set aside to resist the use of fossil energy by leaving gas-guzzling vehicles at home while enjoying the bicycle.
This year, bikers, including community members, are invited to gather at noon at the Campus Green on South Street for a bike tour of local geology.
Assistant professor of geology Doug Reusch will lead bikers on a five- to six-stop tour featuring discussion of limestone, pebblestone, black shales, granites and sandstone found along the approximate two-and-a-half mile ride.
Besides the geology tour, personnel from Northern Lights will be available to do bicycle checks for those participating.
