RUMFORD – Selectmen will consider a proposal Thursday night to form an economic redevelopment committee.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium.
Town Manager Jim Doar said businessman and Grow Rumford leader Phil Blampied will propose that a 12-member committee be established to replace the Downtown Revitalization Committee.
The committee, if approved by selectmen, would develop a framework for economic development and community revitalization activities, according to the two-page proposal.
The board will also reconsider its earlier approval to complete work at the town’s business park off Route 108 in favor of beginning work on Hancock Street.
Doar said the town has about $300,000 in the permanent road fund that had been earmarked for use at the business park. The money comes from excise taxes.
He said completion of the business park would provide a place for businesses to move into. He said four businesses, including two manufacturers, are looking for sites in Rumford.
Other agenda items include action on the final report of the Charter Commission, a decision on how to address an unsafe building on Prospect Avenue, approval of hawkers and peddlers licenses for vegetable/farm owners, and action on a parade permit for the Memorial Day parade.
