AUBURN – Through its participation in the annual Cole’s Land Transportation Museum Patriotism Project, Edward Little High School was recently awarded a $2,450 Patriotism Grant.
Working collaboratively with members of American Legion Post 153 in New Auburn, representatives from the school purchased supplies requested by the military on active duty.
Post members assembled boxes of needed sundries and other items to be shipped to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The estimated cost for the project – procuring and packaging such items as toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, combs, brushes, snacks, deodorant, tissues, socks, feminine hygiene products, slippers, hand-warmers, coffee, tea, writing paper, games, was approximately $1,700.
The remainder of the money will be used to defray transportation costs incurred by the Auburn School Department to send seniors on a field trip to the Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor in late May.
“We are excited this year to be able to include a special guest on our trip to the museum,” said Assistant Principal Steve Galway. “Ray Lemieux, Post 153 member, and commandant with the Marine Corps League, Central Maine Detachment, is planning to travel with us to Bangor.” Lemieux was instrumental in coordinating the Patriotism Project, Galway added.
