NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library will host a local foods program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, when Russell Libby, executive director of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will present a talk about “Our Next Agriculture: Building Deep Connections.”

Libby has been executive director since 1995 and involved with the organization since he attended the first Common Ground Fair in 1977 where he witnessed a connection between local, organic food and a strong Maine economy.

Following Libby’s talk, a panel of people involved in various aspects of the local foods network will speak briefly about their businesses and their work with projects making local foods available to consumers.

They, along with Libby, will answer questions attendees may have regarding buying, growing or marketing foods locally. The panelists will be Jeanette Baldridge of LolliePapa Farm in West Paris, Pat Verrill of Harvest Moon Produce and Fox School Farmer’s Market, Mike Twitchell of Oxford Hills Food Cooperative, Claire Gelinas of Fare Share Market and Ken Morse of Healthy Oxford Hills and Farm to School.

A number of local food producers and purveyors will have displays and information available. Confirmed so far are A Wrinkle in Thyme Farm, Harvest Moon Produce, Fox School Farmer’s Market, Oxford Hills Food Cooperative, LolliePapa Farm CSA, Jackson’s Sugar House and Farm Stand, Fare Share Market, Crystal Spring Farm, and Little Falls Farm.

Refreshments of locally made foods will be available for tasting, including cheese, bread and apple cider.

Producers and sellers of local foods who would like to participate in providing information at the event are encouraged to call the library at 743-5309.
