NORWAY – Teaming up once again to bring cultural opportunities to the Oxford Hills, the Norway Memorial Library is presenting a program in May focused on local food production and food shoppers’ choices while the artists of Western Maine Art Group exhibit a variety of paintings, lithographs and photographs depicting foods and food production.
The food art will be on exhibit through May, punctuated by a 7 p.m. program on Tuesday, May 6, featuring a talk by Russell Libby, executive director of Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association, on “Our Next Agriculture: Building Deep Connections.” A panel discussion of people involved in different aspects of the local foods network will follow.
Then on Tuesday, May 13, a discussion is planned to focus on Barbara Kingsolver’s book, “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life,” at 7 p.m.
The purpose behind the program is to help people become aware of local food production and to illuminate the resources in place to help people find local food sources and make local food choices, according to Library Director Ann Siekman.
The Western Maine Art Group members participating in the food art exhibit are Barbara Traficonte, Victoria Denninger, Joanna Reese, Janis Hutchins, Cynthia Burmeister and Frost Farm Gallery.
