LEWISTON – Leo V. Roy, 88, of Lewiston, died Friday, May 2, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side.

He was born in Courcelle, P.Q. Canada, on Jan. 9, 1920, the son of Alphonse and Melina Belanger Roy. He attended schools in Quebec and Biddeford. He moved from Canada to Maine with his family, and later became a U.S. citizen.

On May 19, 1958, he married the former Rita E. Cailler at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.

He worked at the Bates Mill and Knapp Shoe for more than 25 years, retiring in 1981.

A member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, he enjoyed spending time with his family, tinkering around the house and gardening, especially growing tomatoes.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rita, of Lewiston; three sons, Richard and wife, Patricia, of Minot, Paul and wife, Denise, of Lewiston, and Robert and wife, Tammie, of Greene; a daughter, Susan and husband, Brian Guilbault, of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Dave Story, Dustin Roy, Jennifer Roy, Jonathan Roy, Tasha Libby, Tyler Roy, Michelle Guilbault and Corey Guilbault; a brother, Joseph Roy of Florida; and seven sisters, Lorraine Bison and Lorette Foley, both of Lac Megantic, P.Q. Canada, Bertha Cote of Saco, Annette Goulet of Biddeford, Yvonne Parquette of Saco, Aline Breton and husband, Eugene, of Saco, and Solange Moreau of Lyman.

Leo’s family would like to thank Dr. A. Letafati, Dr. Darlene Miller, their staffs, and the staff of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for the care they gave him during his final illness.
