BANGOR – Lesley University notched a pair, 10-4 and 5-2 victories to stave off elimination and placing themselves in the title matchup for the North Atlantic Conference tournament title on Saturday.
The Husson Eagles (30-12) closed the gap to within one run with scoring in the bottom of the second and third innings of the opener, but Lesley (29-10) erupted for five tallies in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a three-run home run from Alyson Durben.
The UMF Beavers struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead in the nightcap. Lesley scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 advantage and built on their lead with three more runs in the top of the fifth, including a two-run home run from Georgia Saltzman.
Baseball
Bowdoin, Middlebury split
BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin roared to a 17-11 win in Game 1, before Middlebury College claimed the nightcap, 9-6, in baseball action Saturday.
Down 7-5 in the sixth inning, the Polar Bears (18-16) rallied to score 12 runs and take the eventual win.
Reid Auger had the go-ahead two-run single in the frame, while Brett Gorman blasted a home run and a three-run triple in the inning.
The Panthers (14-16) scored four runs in the second inning of Game 2 and never trailed.
USM sweeps
GORHAM – Rookie right-hander Nick Han picked up two wins and the University of Southern Maine came from behind in both games to sweep Western Connecticut State University, 12-10 and 9-5, in an LEC baseball matchup Saturday.
The Huskies (29-10) scored three in the eighth inning of Game 1 to break a tie and go ahead for good. Junior Ryan Pike roped a two-run triple and junior Chris Burleson notched a run scoring sacrifice fly in the frame.

America East Championships
ORONO – The University of Maine men and women competed at the America East Championships hosted by the University of Maine on Saturday.
Jeff Ramos of Turner is the 2008 America East champion in the high jump with a leap of six-foot six-inches. Dan Poirier of Lewiston was the runner-up in the javelin. Allyson Thomas of Auburn placed fourth in the pole vault.
