RUMFORD – Telstar gave starter Candace Hall all of the run support she would need with a four-run fourth and prevailed over Mountain Valley, 7-3, in Mountain Valley Conference softball action Saturday.
Hall gave up just three hits and worked around five Telstar errors by fanning eight to pick up the win. Hannah Morin and Kayla Merrill clubbed doubles for the Rebels (2-0). Natalie LaPointe had a double for Mountain Valley (0-3).
Fryeburg 2, Greely 0
FRYEBURG – Pitcher Hannah Hill struck out 17 batters, allowed just one walk and threw a two-hitter, directing undefeated Fryeburg Academy (6-0) to a 2-0 victory over Greely in softball on a soggy Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders collected two runs in the third inning thanks to Jacqui Bell’s RBI double and Hill’s triple. Heather Tripp was the only repeat hitter in the game with two singles and earning one RBI.
At this point in the season, Hill has gone six games without giving up an earned run and she has had six hits in six games.
Oak Hill 5, MCI 1
WALES – Brittany Wood fanned 10 in tossing a three-hitter to help Oak Hill gain a 5-1 win over Maine Central Institute in girls’ softball Saturday.
Cadie Rodrigue rapped an RBI double and Stacy Light contributed a run-scoring single to highlight a three-run fifth for the Raiders (2-1). Wood raises her record to 2-0.
Brooke Libby laced a double to pace MCI (1-2) while Kristy Huff (0-1) suffered the loss.
Hebron 12, Gould 1
HEBRON – Hebron exploded for nine runs in the fifth and six innings to cement a 12-1 victory over Gould Academy in softball action Saturday.
Kayla Chadwick went five innings on the mound, striking out six batters, and Malorie Johnson closed out the pitching duties in the final two innings.
Kailey Bubier led the way with two doubles and a home run. Meghan Munro contributed a pair of doubles, while Emma Valli, Nikki Dube and Chadwick each added one.
Baseball
Oak Hill 11, MCI 9
WALES – Tom Edgecomb had three hits and three RBIs to lead Oak Hill to an 11-9 triumph over Maine Central Institute in KVAC baseball action Saturday.
The Raiders (2-1) broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to take a 9-2 lead, but the Mustangs (0-3) battled back to within striking distance over the next two innings. Charles West contributed two hits and two RBIs for the Mustangs.
Oak Hill banked a pair of runs in the eighth for a little security that survived a one-run seventh from MCI. Ben Rines provided two hits and two RBIs, while securing his second save of the season.
