GORHAM – Rookie right-hander Nick Han picked up two wins and the University of Southern Maine came from behind in both games to sweep Western Connecticut State University, 12-10 and 9-5, in an LEC baseball matchup Saturday.

The Huskies (29-10) scored three in the eighth inning of Game 1 to break a tie and go ahead for good. Junior Ryan Pike roped a two-run triple and junior Chris Burleson notched a run scoring sacrifice fly in the frame.

The Huskies scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning of the nightcap on an RBI single by sophomore Collin Henry, an RBI single by senior Eddie Skeffington and a two-run single by junior Ryan Gaffney. The fifth run was scored on a wild pitch.

Mike and Dan Baccaro collected four hits each in the two game stint for the Colonials (17-23).

Softball

Colby, St. Joe’s split

WATERVILLE – Alex Essman hit her 10th home run of the season as Colby College collected the win in Game 1, 7-1, but dropped the nightcap, 9-5, to St. Joseph’s in softball action Saturday.

Alyssa Dunn had a three-run homer in the first inning of the second game to lead the Monks (26-16) to a win.

Essman hit her two-run homer after Carlie Minichino doubled to give the Mules (17-14) a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning of the opener.
