LEWISTON – Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications for homes. The purpose is to build homes with families and sell the houses at no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home.

The following are general guidelines:

To qualify, a family must have a housing need. (For example: no indoor plumbing, poor heating, leaks in the roof, overcrowding, unsafe or unsanitary conditions.)

The family needs to have a source of income.

If approved for a Habitat home, the agency requires that the family, with the assistance of family and friends, complete hours of sweat equity into the home.

If approved for a Habitat home, a down payment of $250 will be required.

Those interested in Habitat and believe that they qualify for a home according to the above guidelines should contact Habitat to receive an application. The cut-off date for Habitat to process an application is May 31. Call 786-2598 and an individual from the office will give assistance.
