This is another update on some of the things the Lewiston Middle School Civil Right Team is doing. They just recently had their annual Camp Kieve camping trip. This year there was a little twist.

Instead of the team going to Camp Kieve, Camp Kieve came to the team. This year some of the staff from Camp Kieve came to LMS on a Saturday to teach the kids about teamwork and leadership. They even brought the climbing wall.

When the camp came, they first divided the team into two groups. They would all end up doing the same things, just at different times. In one part the teams would build leadership and teamwork skills. They would also talk about bullying.

One of the games that the team members played had to do with a lot of teamwork. They were again separated into two teams. The object of the game was to get from one side of the gym to the other, without touching the ground, and your feet at all times must stay on a board. Each team is supplied with a number of boards; each team has the same amount. Each team then has to decide how to get from one side to the other without touching the ground. The first team to get everyone to the other side wins.

The other class was called Adventure class. Here each team member was going to climb a rock wall. They would get into different groups of six. There would be one climber, one leader, and four people on the support team. The job of the leader was to encourage the climber and to make sure that before they start climbing that everyone is strapped in safely to their strings. The support team would be the people that would pull on the string to help the climber get to the top. It was an a activity based around trust. The students had fun and some made it to the top. One person even did it with his eyes closed. So that’s what the Civil Rights Team did for Camp Kieve this year.
