SOUTH PARIS – Gene Wade died Monday, May 5, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
He was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Lewiston, the son of the late Franklin and Edith Bassett Wade. He was educated in Turner schools and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and watching the Red Sox. He was a farmer for many years and road commissioner for the town of Turner, before retiring in 1976.
On Feb. 14, 1946, he married Laura Timberlake and together they had four children, Melina DeCoster and her husband, Roger, of Turner, Vicky Wade of Solon, Kirk Wade and his wife, Linda, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charles Wade and his wife, Lisa, of Orlando, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Franklin “Bud” Wade and his wife, Connie, of Greenfield, Mass.; and a brother-in-law, Reginald Hagan of Peru.
He was predeceased by his dad and mother; brother, Russell; and sisters, Ramona Hagan and Priscilla Marston.
His family wishes to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris and Dr. Eshleman, who took such loving care of their dad for the past three years.
